W. A. Mitchell Chairmakers has found success and an international reputation in the furniture business by basically crafting one product line, and crafting it well. From the Mitchell company workshop in Temple, a tiny town in the mountains of Western Maine, W. A. Mitchell Company creates clean-lined, elegant hand crafted Windsor chairs and related products that grace homes around the world and the pages of prestigious woodworking publications.
These solid hardwood sitting pieces are original creations of Arthur H. Mitchell, company founder. Quality construction and craftsmanship is evident in the design, featuring legs that are wedged through the seat and spindles that are pegged. Two-wood chairs, our most popular, (cherry/ash or cherry/maple) highlights the natural color variation of the woods creating an elegant, durable seating piece.
W. A. Mitchell chairs can be found in homes and businesses from Maine to Florida to California to Alaska; and in Germany, England and Japan. Pieces have been featured in catalogs such as L.L. Bean, Orvis, Sturbridge Yankee Workshop and various German and English based catalogs. Our great reception at the International Home Furnishings show in High Point, N.C. as a participant in the State of Maine Showroom gave us our original customer base. We continue to show in High Point with a permanent display in the Plaza Suites building on Main Street.
It has been the policy of W. A. Mitchell Chairmakers to design furniture that is appealing, with good sound construction practices that make for a lasting piece of furniture. Arthur states "This is just the philosophy that customers expect from a Maine business", and he notes that the "Made in Maine" tag on his furniture gives him a major advantage with both the individual customers and at major industry shows. "The minute people associate the product with the state of Maine, they anticipate quality," he says.
